The step grooves actually catch the litter off my cat's paws before she tracks it across the carpet. The enclosed dome keeps the mess contained, and cleanup is way easier than with my old open pan.
Wasn't sure the dome would win my cat over but she took to the enclosed space right away, and I love that I don't have to look at the mess anymore. The step on the way out really does trap most of the litter, so my floors stay cleaner.
The dome really does cut down on litter kicked out onto the floor, and my cat took to it within a day or two. Only gripe is that it's a bit bulky for my bathroom corner, but the enclosed top has been worth it.
